The recent devastating earthquake in Haiti underscores the need for preventative mitigation and restoration efforts for Haiti and for the many bridges, railroads, highways, and other infrastructure in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world that my be in danger of collapse - partial or total - in the event of an earthquake, storm, or other natural stress.

President Obama is urging government funding of at least $75 billion for the repair, reconstruction, and replacement of aging and deteriorating bridges, highways, roads, and other infrastructure in the United States.
